Serenaded at work

Today, I got serenaded by one of the elderly residents at work!  Aww.. He was carrying a coffee cup to me and started singing to and for me "yes you're lovely,  with your smile so warm "  Awww. he's such a sweetheart, isn't he? *Grins* He's too old for me though. Haha.   Oh, and this reminds me of what happened last year. My church invited this 20 something year old Christian singer and turned the church service to a cafe style setting and he was just singing for us the whole time, there was no sermon.. just singing and food. =) And after singing a few songs. He pointed at me and told the church that he was dedicating the next song to me. I was shocked  but pleasantly surprised, more than that actually. Lol. And adding to the fact that he was easy on the eyes, I felt so giddy, in a good way though. =) okay  that's  enough ,  you sound like a high school girl . Ahh.. incidents like these just makes a girl feel so.. special!

Expectations

I just finished a major biology test! Wheee! Just fell into one big heap of elation when it was over. I've a test in 2 weeks but that can wait awhile. Need to enjoy myself nw and going to the cinema for the first time in ages.  I've been so bogged down lately by this intense pressure of wanting to get into medicine.  Few weeks ago the pressure was so intense the dam just burst aft my bio lab. We were making a model of a human embryo, it was fascinating and fun, you get to use a special clay and all (felt like kindy!), we even had background music. However, it was an assessment, and towards the end.. when time was almost up, I found I had looped my embryo's  vein over it's kidney and to redo it would take some time, and the vein was so narrow I just made a mess of it when I tried to repair it so I got shooed away by the lab assistant without repairing that vein. I think that lab was abt 5% to my overall mark. That isn't much right? But I had a major Bio test t...

Another light

I have two tests in a week. Physics is one of them and I don't get Physics.  I have Biochemistry comprising 40% of my total mark the day after. Plus, I need to study for my Reproduction Lab. And I haven't gone thru much. Groaaaaaaaaaaan. And I have other responsibilities and activities to attend. I feel like giving up. I don't wanna work so hard.. why do I need to work so hard? why? why? why? why? Here's why. Because I serve a God who loves me. And He's gonna help me thru this. It's not gonna be easy but I'm gonna come out alright. And because He loves me I wanna give back to Him. And this is one of the ways I can. I will not, I cannot give up.  Help me Dad to serve you with joy, not grudgingly!

Why one must never throw mince into a wastemaster

I said I needed inspiration eh? I've got all the inspiration I need.. Today I went to work at the Retirement Village again. After serving dinner to the residents (that's my fave part! Hee), I was washing the dishes while my colleague cleaned the coffee machine and put the table clothes to wash. We've a wastemaster in the kitchen where you can throw soft food into and  I threw the minced meat into the wastemaster. Way to go, Abby. So after cleaning the trays, cutlery, plates, bowls etc and putting it into the dishwasher, I turned on the switch that activates the wastemaster. Normally, the food thrown into it would go down the wastemaster and it grinds it. But noo, this time it didn't happen because "someone" threw the mince down the wastemaster.  The wastemaster was now half-full with orangey water (must have been the custard; the water is supposed to go down, not stay there), and bubbly lumpy.. alright, let's not go there, I shall spare you the...

I resign!

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I would like to accept the responsibilities of a 6-year-old again. I want to go to McDonald's and think that it’s a 5-star restaurant. I want to run around like a little ragamuffin again, jump on beds, sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle, and make a footpath with rocks. I want to think Smarties are better than money because you can eat them. I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were names of colours, times-tables, and nursery rhymes – but that didn’t bother you, because you didn’t know what you didn’t know and you didn’t care. All you knew was to be happy, because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you upset. I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest, unprejudiced and good. I want to believe that everything has a happy ending. I want to be loosely bounded by society's rules again and say exactly what's on my mind and ...

Two weeks home

I'm back in Auckland now and I wish I could have stayed in Kch for CNY.  I hardly had time to go online when I was back in Malaysia, my mum already sold our house, so basically, we spent MOST of the time in Kch, clearing the house and packing 20kg boxes (we packed 9 of 'em, just us 3 girls! and we had to carry them too.. okaay, I admit it was just to the car, and out of the car to the parcel office.. but still.. :P)  THANK God for good friends =) Mimi came over to my house quite often to help with the clearing up. Poor old lady, she kept sneezing and sniffing during the initial stage of cleaning but, eventually she got used to it. Thanks Mimi so much for your help, we really couldn't have done it without you, you're a SUPER-duper good OLD friend =) When I was clearing my room, I found an assortment of rust-gathering trinkets, junk, diaries, treasures.. I found my report cards from St Faith Kindy from 1994 all the way to 1996! I even found my diaries from Primary 2 onwa...

Dirty dishes

he other day, I was working at the retirement village as usual and I was wearing the carry the call t-shirt, the one that has John 1:1-4 at the back of it. As I was carrying the pile of dishes to the counter, Mr H wheeled his chair over to me and asked me, "How do you know it's true? That verse at the back. How do you know it's for real?" I told him I knew that God was real because of how he worked in my life, that how he brought so much meaning into my life was so real and so supernatural that I couldn't put it into words. I knew it was definitely something I couldn't do on my own strength.. that I was fully convinced it was God.. that I knew He had to be the Creator of everything. I thought he was going to start this theological debate with me but, he didn't. Phew! Mr B overheard our conversation and smiled at me saying, "I'm glad he's doing some good in your life." Hehs. What could I have said? I didn't really know how to...
