My international bargaining experiences

I pride myself on my bargaining skills, it's the one time I don't worry about being nice to people and it's the one time I can be harsher and critique the quality of the item I'm buying and play around with words, however I like, without being bothered by my conscience because it's all about business.  And somehow I don't care how hard a time the shopkeeper gives me when I decide not to buy their item after a good 5 minutes of bargaining (maybe it's because I haven't been to China yet?). Haven't had the chance to bargain for awhile though - I hope I've still got it in me! In KL.. Salesperson: Amoi, amoi - I give you this bag for RM50. Me: No, I'll only get it for RM20. (walks away) Salesperson: (runs after me) Ok ok, I'll give it to you for RM20. Me: (taken aback because I said that just to get out of buying it) erh, no it's too expensive. Salesperson: hmpf - you told me you'll get it for RM20, now you don't want i...

Work so far

Some people just have such a knack of bringing out the best in you, so naturally, somehow they help lighten any apprehensions you may have, and inspire you to grow and develop your skills. Some call them supervisors. Others call them lecturers. I call them teachers (eheh, this is a bit cheesy I know *sheepish grin*). I'm so thankful for what I'm learning, where I am, what I'm doing, who is guiding my learning - I know this is the "honeymoon" stage, but I want to remember it - I just love what I'm doing, even if I know I have to stay up till 3am (hopefully earlier) researching. For some weird reason, I'm really looking forward to it. :) And I'm doing it to help someone else.  God, You are so goood to me!

Seeds do grow

Often times, when I try and share God's love through my actions or sometimes through my words, I second guess myself. Thoughts like, "that never made a difference", "they'll just think you sounded silly", or "you didn't get through to them" come to my mind. Life's been "busy" (the best excuse I can come up with) and I have to confess that I haven't been sharing my faith as intentionally as I should be. And being in such a secular culture, I'm so afraid to open my mouth and talk about Christianity. And I do try (but maybe not hard enough) to show love to my colleagues and friends through my actions, but sometimes I wonder if it's all in vain. You know, I realise I'm not second guessing myself, I'm actually second guessing God - and I shouldn't be. His Word clearly says that " "God's kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man, who then goes to bed and forgets about it. The seed sprouts ...

Appalling

While the main thing on my mind this week has been to finish this neuropsych report by next week, a 2yo child, 8yo boy and 29yo woman died, and 130 were injured in Boston. I'm simply disgusted and appalled :'( Sigh.

So it wasn't such a miserable weekend afterall

Was feeling absolutely miserable yesterday and this morning with my flu, fever, sore-throat. I relished the extra hour of sleep with daylight savings ending! And I pandai-pandai (i.e., cleverly) agreed to attend a classical music concert last night although I was feeling sooo under the weather. Btw, I wonder why they call it under the weather - why not, beneath the weather, or below the weather or over the weather? Looked dreadful going to the concert with my red cheeks, red nose and while everyone else was dressed in thin long sleeved shirts or cardigans, I was in my winter gear cos I was so cold (and it's only autumn!) - like a full on winter coat, knitted scarf, and knee-high boots - I wanted to put on a beanie and gloves too but thought that would be pushing it. Haha, and although I was told that the concert would only last for an hour.. it went on for 2.5 hours - so by the end of the night, I was fast asleep - felt so bad and was really trying hard to keep my eyes open. The co...

Narnia!

Recently, a lot of Narnian things have been coming at me - last week, a friend was telling me about a scene in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader that touched her; then she made me feel like watching a Narnia movie over the Easter break but there were so many to choose from and I couldn't make up my mind on which movie I wanted to see that I didn't end up watching any of the movies; hahaha last night Prince Caspian was on! and I really really wanted to watch the movie from start to finish but I fell asleep 15 mins into it because I was feeling quite sick; and this morning when my dog started scratching on my door and woke me at an unearthly hour (5:40am), I decided to read another chapter of this book I borrowed from the library and in that chapter, there was a small part on this scene from Narnia! Maybe I should watch or read? the whole series again, maybe God wants to teach me a thing or two from it - I find that sometimes He teaches me really powerful things in movies but if ...

At the cross

I did not write this poem. I wait, And time ticks past. I gaze, Made silent by the sight. I watch, As soldiers meticulously move Executing each terrible, torturous task. I gasp, Still life lingers in His fragile, broken form. I flinch, As blow by blow, Nails bite deep through flesh to find wood. I stand As He is lifted high, Silhouetted ‘against the sky which He has made. I weep As His cry echoes deep in my hardened, calloused heart. I wail, As He screams ‘it is complete, Finished, final, said and done.’ I fall, As the sky turns inky black And the sun and moon and stars forget to shine. I kneel, As worlds collide, And time ticks by; What once bound, no longer seems to hold. I bow, For part of me is gone, Kept forever on Calvary’s painful peak. I wait, At the foot of the cross, to begin my journey home.
