Slightly whacked mid-year resolutoins

19 New Year's Resolutions (more like Mid Year actually) 1. I will spend an afternoon in the children's department of my local library reading books I loved as a kid. (Enid Blyton! Nancy Drew! Archie comics!  *breaks into a big smile*) 2. I will watch the cartoon show that used to be my absolute favorite three consecutive times on the same day. And make my sister watch it with me. 3. I will show up at a party with a gallon of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkles, and announce, "Sundaes for everybody!" 4. I will sing in the shower. 5. I will quack like a duck at least three different times in different frequencies during a day of my choice. 6. I will spend one Saturday morning playing at my old kindergarten school playground. 7. I will look in a mirror and make goofy faces until my face hurts from laughing at myself. 8. I will buy a 1,000-piece puzzle, remove one piece and give the puzzle to someone who absolutely loves puzzles (and ...

Being faithful in little things

“If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities." (NLT) Luke 16:10 Lately, this verse has been coming at me from all directions - like when I'm going out the door, taking the steps, when I see rubbish on the floor - it just comes! I really feel as though God's challenging me to be more faithful in little things and I can think of a few little things I have been putting off for awhile now.. them being: 1. BUY A MOTHER'S DAY GIFT 2. REPLY THREE LETTERS (hand-written) 3. Call up Study-Link 4. Go to Grafton to ask a few questions 5. ASB - check account and call up 6. My Education assignment *inhale. exhale* This also means other small things like taking out the trash even when I don't feel like it. This means I need to make an effort to be a better sister and to be home more often so I can spend more time with her. I also need to be a bet...

Ladeeda

Note to self: FINISH blogging by 845. This is so beautiful.. Isaiah 55. I was just captivated by it. I went for a bible seminar today on how to  love and study  (two words that are not normally seen side by side in my vocab :D) the bible. Contrary to popular belief, the bible is  not   a book that bores you out of your wits!  It's  far  from that. We gotta get a bit more  flirtatious  with the bible - when we find it boring, we are at fault - we aren't approaching it with the right attitude, we're not expecting it to speak to us and we don't recognise that it IS GOD'S WORD. If anything.. the Bible is life-changing! it has made me LAUGH out loud, DISSOLVED me into tears, CHANGED my life, and BROADENED my perspectives more than any form of philosophy will ever be able to do. And I mean what I'm saying. It has authority, lays the foundation, a or rather THE fountain. One will only know it's price when we're separated from it - yet so many of ...

8am

8am. My body and mind were worn to a frazzle as I stood at the bus stop listening to the pitter-patter of the rain. Books in my bag. Weight of the world on my shoulders. Felt like it anyway. When I got on, I made an attempt to greet the bus driver in a cheerful tone – I think he saw right past my facade and instead of greeting me likewise – he paused briefly and asked, “Are you alright?” Whoa. I was taken aback, was I really that transparent? I did not dare look boldly at him but I quickly mumbled an inaudible answer to his question and said “4 stages please.” Wait, there’s more. As I got off the bus, I thanked him graciously. In reply he said: “Have a good day. And DON’T STUDY TOO hard.” And he was a stranger! Someone who didn’t know me. Yet, he actually bothered to care. That made my day. Those mere three sentences sprinkled with care and concern. Even a week later, I am recounting it with much detail and fondness. Kind words have endless echoes, they have. I know God was r...

Homesick

My mum has been working round the clock lately. I've noticed distinct lines of fatigue appearing on her face. I'm so glad she's decided she's in dire need of a holiday and NOW, my mum and sister will be going back this Saturday to MALAYSIA. They're both as happy as larks =) And here I am.. (shamefully) wishing with all my heart that I would be able to go back too. I know I can't - I can't for very simple reasons. One being the fact that I need to stay here to prepare for my tests after the break. Another being I am needed at Easter Camp - I am bringing a friend, and it won't be nice to just leave her like that and 'cabut' to Malaysia =) Haha. cabut. And camp's just the place where I'll get to build friendships with people, help build people up, and at the same time, be enriched myself. But, God, why am I in this doleful state? It's my third year here. And I still miss home like the first day I arrived. God, encourage me! I won...

Wait a minute

As I was stroking Tammy while she was eating, it just struck me how completely in love I am with her. This 2-months-old destructo German Shepherd pup has me tightly wrapped around her muddy little paw! Because of Tam, I have become the slowest text message and facebook wall post replier  on earth ! It was so nice watching her munch happily on her puppy food whilst I stroked her, and I stopped to think about that verse in the Bible in 1 John 4:"God is love". He is the  very essence  of love. I mean.. look, I'm just a girl who is just drenched with imperfections; I make wrong choices, think wrong thoughts on a daily basis - and here I am, so in love with my pup. Then, I thought about something radical:  Wait a minute ,  what if God loved me as much as Mel and I love Tammy! What if He watches me as I eat & tries to tell me how much He loves me even during meal times? What if He sits with me and calms me down till I'm sound asleep? What if He consta...

I love my sister

A wise 14-year-old said this to me yesterday after I spent half the day gulping down strong emotions:  "Cheh, you have to smile  as hard as you can  till your eyes grow really small so that it'll be harder for your tears to fall out." Daddy, thanks for blessing me so much with and thru all these people! Now I'm going to wake my sister up by singing "O Christmas Tree" into her left ear! *inserts a villain-ish laughter here* Heheh.
